WHAT WE DO
Theatre Booking Services (“TBS”), and its independent theatre partners, are part of one of the most recognizable industries in the world…
-
Our Product is a motion picture, the world’s greatest storytelling medium
-
Our Partners are independent theatres owned and operated by private companies, city governments, public school districts, colleges and universities, and community-owned non-profit organizations
-
Our Job is to provide professional film buying services that acquires content from Hollywood studios and brings it to their screens
Each week since 1975, we have intelligently put our industry experience to work reviewing all available content, scrutinizing projected boxoffice expectations and researching comparable titles for each theatre, in order to book content that will deliver maximum revenue opportunities to our partners.
We are always strong advocates for independent theatre owners, negotiating the best possible scheduling and business terms with film distributors and providing our partners with advisory services.
OUR MISSION
We understand the best thing we can do to make sure our partners and their communities continue to thrive, is help them generate strong financial performance…even not-for-profit organizations need to generate revenue.
We believe our relationship with independent theatre owners is a partnership, and doing our part means providing our clients with the best content available, at the best terms available; and sharing insights, information, analysis and data in support of them operating a successful and consumer-relevant business. We are guided by four principles: work together, encourage each other, communicate regularly, and have fun!
OUR INDUSTRY
TBS and its independent theatre partners are part of one of the greatest, most recognizable industries in the world. Our product is a motion picture, the world’s greatest storytelling medium, and it changes every week.
Despite a soft Q1'25, down -14%, Q2'25 delivered a powerful rebound with a staggering +35% year-over-year surge, pushing the industry up +13% thru the first 26 weeks, and keeping the $9.5B end of year target within reach. Year-to-date, there have been 53 “wide release” titles, also up +13% vs last year, proving once again, when there are movies, the audience will be there! Even better, the +13% increase in year-to-date boxoffice was boosted by a +10% increase in raw attendance (and a +3% increase in average ticket price).
Fundamentals for the industry look positive, with Apple and Amazon having each committed to investing at least $1B annually in the production of movies designed specifically for theatrical release, and CEO’s from Warner Bros, Sony, Disney, Paramount, and Universal each publicly reaffirming their belief in the importance of a strong theatrical-first strategy in creating long-term shareholder value, noting that theatrical is not only still relevant, but essential to maximizing a film’s cultural and commercial impact.
Q3 kicks off with Jurassic World Rebirth, Superman, and Fantastic Four. Moviegoers will also enjoy known franchises, such as Smurfs, Bad Guys 2, Naked Gun, Freakier Friday, and Downton Abbey, plus fresh new stories, including Honey Don’t, Caught Stealing, Him, and Big Bold Beautiful Journey.
Oh, and an early sneak look to Q4 includes, Running Man, Wicked for Good, and Avatar: Fire and Ash.

IMPORTANT INDUSTRY RESOURCES
WHO WE ARE
About Us
TBS has been providing professional film buying and advisory services to independent theatre owners since 1975. We recognize and take seriously the important role our partner’s theatre plays in contributing to the livelihood of their community and family.
For guests attending independently owned theatres, the experience is about MORE than just the movie, it represents an audience full of neighbors and friends, showing up every Saturday night, even if they aren’t especially excited about what’s on screen; sure, the movie is important, but an evening-out at these theatres represents so much more.
