Screening Notes
Simple, family-friendly PG film. Yes, it’s sappy, predictable, and a relatively low-budget film, but the messaging is positive, the story inspiring, baseball is front and center, and Dennis Quaid always delivers a solid performance.
Boxoffice Estimate
The Hill finds itself in a tough-sell genre…small budget period piece drama based on a true-story, with a storyline that is inspirational and flirts with being faith-based. Setting aside the Sound of Freedom juggernaut, history points to these types of films way under-indexing nationally but over-performing in smaller markets...Exhibit A: Jesus Revolution, Silent Night in Algona, Champions, Running the Bases, and American Underdog.
My number crunching points to a $1.5M opening, with a range between $1.3M and $1.6M, and a total multiple of 3.1x leading to a final gross estimated between $4M and $5M.
